Mini Spring Makeover in the Bedroom

Things have felt decidedly unmotivated around here lately, there’s always a long list of changes I’d like to make around the home, but to be perfectly honest with you (and if I can’t be honest here on my own blog where can I be!) I’ve been in a bit of a funk. I thought it was the incredibly long winter, but a month into actual warmth and sunshine of sorts, I don’t seem to be back at the motivation point I’d hoped. But, even so, there are a few small changes going on in the home, and today I thought I’d share some I’ve made in the bedroom, some seasonal, some permanent, which have really lifted the space.

Last time I talked about bedroom decor was over a year ago, and you may remember that I was trying to go for something Scandinavian in vibe without looking too predictably so. I’d painted the floors in Railings, the feature wall behind the bed in Amonite and brought in some Scandinavian furniture classics from Muuto and Normann Copenhagen which complemented the Lene Bjerre console I had already bought when we moved in.

I was happy with the room, it felt like a sanctuary of calm, a semi blank canvas. But something about it didn’t quite gel for me, so last month I did a very therapeutic walk around the rest of the house stealing pieces that I thought may work in the bedroom. I stole a plant here, a vase there, a marble pot from elsewhere and brought them into the room. Then I removed almost all of the items from furniture and mantelpieces keeping only those I knew I wanted in the room. This was really helpful, having as near to a blank canvas as possible helps to really see a space afresh. The shelf next to my dressing table in particular (second image from top) had held trinkets that I loved but in honesty wasn’t really working as a functional space. As we have a console table and not a traditional dressing table I lack storage in this area, whilst keeping make up and perfume in the set of drawers below worked, I much prefer now having all my perfumes readily to hand and my cotton buds and q-tips where they are most readily accessible.

I decided to move out the more colourful pieces and trinkets in the room and added some more neutral pieces. I still have pink as an accent but this has been pared back slightly too. I was given a beautiful pink vase by MADE for a job I’m doing for them (on the blog soon) and put some of the faux eucalyptus I was sent by Brissi inside, I really like this on my dressing table, I can’t always be trusted with fresh flowers (though the white bunch you above, sent to me by Freddie’s Flowers, were incredibly lovely in here whilst they lasted). I have also changed my make-up bag to the Mette Ditmer monochrome one which was on my bedside table, such a small detail but these little accessories make all the difference to feel and purpose.

On the wall next to the dressing table we had hung the only piece of typography art in the house (im a little averse in general) but this was moved to above the mantlepiece. We’d had a pineapple candelabra there for the last few years and though I still love it, it was bought for a previous bedroom and no longer fitted the style.

This meant I now had a blank space on the wall next to the dressing table, as this wall is where the eye naturally falls as you enter the room (and can be viewed from the hallway) I wanted time to think about what should go there and buy something I felt was really special so we lived with the blank wall whilst I looked. I came across a set of designs from Atelier CPH and I choose this, the Object Blanc no.25 design for the bedroom (buying one other, the Art of Fabric no.8 for another space in the house). I love the simplicity and natural colours and these small changes have all made the room feel finally complete.

Not too much has changed on the bed, I have a lovely bedlinen set sent to me by new bedding company Undercover who make gorgeously soft design-led pieces made of the dreamiest tencel and cotton mix. Above my pillow from the bookshelf hangs a hanging tealight lantern sent in a gift package from London based Scandinavian design store Att Pynta and a divine smelling new candle from them in Bergamot & Almond, alongside a geranium body lotion I picked up in Arket (I found it hard to leave with less than three items!). And that’s it, i am very lucky to be able to say that I was gifted a few new items, but despite this much of the change has come from rearrangement and there have been no major tweaks.

What do you think? Small changes can sometimes make a big impact, right? Have you made any changes for the new season in your home? I’d love to hear about them in the comments below.

All images Design Soda.

For full disclosure the following items in this piece were gifted by brands (referenced as such within piece), they were included in my bedroom makeover because they found natural homes here and not because of any obligation to be shared on the blog.

Lido & Ponto duvet set – Undercover Living

Tealight lantern and Bergamot candle – Att Pynta

Pink vase & Marble pot – MADE

Faux Eucalyptus – Brissi

White flower bouquet – Freddie’s Flowers

It’s such a good idea to pinch things from other rooms! It creates space in those rooms and fills out another plus you’re saving money! I love it, the room looks great!

Editing your home is a never ending game (it is a game I love to play a lot too 🙂
Can I ask what kind of plant that is on your dresser and how often you need to water it? Judging from its place it does not mind being in the shade so looks like a good plant to have in my office.

Oh yes, it’s the best game! The plant is a calathea (I’m afraid I forget which variety), I’ve got four different kinds of calathea, as they are quite difficult to kill! Ideally they want watering in summer once a week but are tolerant of being forgotten. They do fine in shade but I have to say it didn’t like the dark walls in the study (where it started) and I had a different kind of calathea die in there last year so although happy in shade maybe not with dark walls! Xxx
