I admit it, I am more than a little smitten, I may have just found a one-stop shop to fulfil all my wishes for beautiful Scandinavian natural homewares. When Nordic Kind approached me to introduce their beautiful new store to you, I didn’t leave their website before committing to at least one purchase from the above items (I’ll leave you to guess which one, though if you’re feeling impatient you may skip to the end, just don’t forget to come back up!). I have history with falling for things sold by this brand, I first came across them in a different guise at London Design Festival last year and in testament to their beautiful array of simple, well designed, stunning pieces they were the only people I bought anything from during the whole week-long marathon of design week (a pretty set of coasters that you can see on my Instagram post today).

Nordic Kind, which launched internationally online this month,  has a really stunning selection of pieces from designers and craftsmen all over the Nordic territories. The items in their collection share a common sensibility, they have a curated aesthetic and the items work with each other, so you could happily buy several pieces and be sure that they would balance together, creating a cohesive, layered Scandi vibe. The pieces, from small scale designers and makers, are beautifully made, often understated, and have the kind of finely tuned attention to both style and quality that we’ve come to expect from well known modern Scandinavian designers.

It is the simplicity which allows these objects to shine, the materials, the care and attention which has been put into each piece, a simplicity which is both useful and beautiful. I’ve chosen six of my favourite pieces to show you (there were 30 on my first list!) which I love and think you will too. Take this beautiful Stubbe tray, above, slightly reminiscent of Marimekko, its made of Nordic birch, and is stunning. I love the simplicity, and yet its really rather intricate in pattern and tone when you look closely. I’d love to have one displayed in my home, it’s pretty enough to go on the wall, but imagine the small joys of using it everyday for your breakfast./

The choice of materials in many of these pieces is perfect – wood, leather, metal, glass, all natural materials that weight a room and add depth. I particularly love this oak veneer lotus pendant light. It has a delicacy to the silhouette from the finely spun veneer which bares all the hallmarks of great craftsmanship and is such a pretty rendering the lotus silhouette. This would make an ideal pendant in a white Scandi room, in fact I’m thinking of saving my pennies to have it in our bedroom. Incidentally, if you’re looking at the prices of these items, current exchange rate means that you essentially move the digit along one so something that’s 100 Kroner is just under £10 GBP at the moment.

The graphic elements on this Manifest cushion, which is exclusive to Nordic Kind, are so striking. There is a cityscape within this hand printed cushion, the light play of muted colour on a monochrome base, the layered geometric patterns, this would be very much at home in the Design Soda House, and a stylish addition to any Scandinavian space.

I have developed a bit of a thing for collecting handmade and artisan kitchenwares, especially ceramics, I like the way that they add a folkish element to what is often our most sterile spaces – our kitchens. This hand thrown, thin-rimmed, solid-handled Dot coffee mug is perfectly balanced, both understated and bold, it would look gorgeous in pretty well any kitchen style.

And here it is, the piece I am definitely buying. I absolutely love this candle holder, graceful, solid, useful, beautiful. It can be used both indoors and outdoors and it’s something I can see myself using time and again. I’ve blogged before about how I love candlelight in daytime and I think this may be the perfect unfussy accompaniment to when I’m sat on the bed blog-writing or working. The nickel plated version in the main image nearly stole the show but I am plumping for the brass one as I think it will add a little extra warmth to the winter that’s coming.
