Good afternoon, in these strange and unfathomable times where we are all spending much more time at home I’ve been thinking about posts that I can bring you that relate to things we will all be doing and the seasonal reorganisation of the wardrobe is the first on my list. I love the rotation of textiles, discovering old favourites and organising the safe care of things to be packed away. This year I have been using tools provided to me by Scandinavian firm Steamery to take better care of my garments and be more ecological in the process. I have been using their clothes steamer, fabric shaver and clothing mist. Steamery’s products are both stylish and clever, created by people with a background in fashion, in a range of colours, I have chosen pieces classic black pieces.

Taking care of knitwear

I have a large collection of knitwear, from lots of minimal jumpers in natural colours, to bright patterned pieces that are made by hand and I love returning to them year on year. Each Spring, when they get packed away, I have used a comb to remove any bobbles, but I find these a little scratchy, likely to pull more wool than necessary. This year I have been using the Pilo fabric shaver from Steamery which is much kinder to my clothes and much cleverer too. With its minimalist design, the pilo fabric shaver uses an inbuilt razor to remove bobbles as they enter the product and are then gently whisked away by its vacuum. The device is twice as powerful as all others currently on the market, it’s usb chargeable, and when you’ve finished you simply life the device open to remove the lint you’ve collected. I can honestly say that it’s left my clothes in better condition for storage than ever before and it’s done this whilst being gentle to the garments.

Spraying Items

One of the things I love about Steamery, alongside great design and clever products, are their ecological credentials. With an array of products designed to help you wash clothes less frequently (which not only reduces water use but also prolongs the life of your garments) I was keen to try their clothing mist. Naturally scented with bergamot and oak, fabrics are delicately scented and refreshed. But the really clever thing about this spray is it’s active bacterial culture which helps eliminate unwanted odours and is gentle to sensitive textiles. Hanging clothes on hangers for the new season, I can now refresh them quickly and easily, spraying the mist straight onto textiles. I have also used this product to refresh costs and it’s become invaluable.

Steaming your clothes

I’ve saved my best discovery til last because this is a real game changer for me, meaning I can finally do without the ironing board we don’t have space for in the house. As a simpler, gentler, time saving alternative to the iron, the Cirrus 2 Steamer is very clever. It is easily transportable, makes clothes presentable and wrinkle free whilst also removing both shallow dirt and odour. You can steam a wider variety of textiles than with an iron and my favourite thing is how much time it saves me. I tend to be a pretty minimal ironer, hating the time it steals from me, with the steamer I have breezed through piles of clothes in no time. Alongside the great function of this piece, being a natural aesthete, I love the stylish lines of it too, their is nothing ugly about its utilitarianism. Little details like the stylish leather strap attached to the cord to tie it easily away when not in use, or the cloth bag the kit is stored in, all add to the stylish simplicity of using these products.
