What a cold and dark start this month has been, I’ve got lots to keep my mind occupied this month but still these dark cold days are starting to grind. So, as the Christmas lights have faded all around, I thought January the perfect time for appreciating pops of neon. Today’s aperture includes some of my favourite punches of neon (and even a carousel) to lift us out of the doldrums. First up is this very cool gas station in Shoreditch (above) spotted on my London wanderings, perfect seventies fun flair, enjoy. What are you doing to beat the January blues?

The new design of Tottenham Court Rd station is Everything as far as I’m concerned, so much so I’ve framed it in the hallway! The TFL design team are really on it at the moment, I love the new Kings Cross tunnel with its hints of noir movies, but this bold pattern straight out of the sixties has officially stolen my heart.

As is now a family tradition, we visited Kew garden over Christmas to see their winter light trail, which I so thoroughly recommend. When I spotted the twinkle of a carousel in the distance, I had to slip away from the tribe for a second to watch it spin slowly around, I love carousels.

Through the aperture, neon pink and terrazzo detail at Barbican, London

I only visit the Barbican once a year but it’s one of my favourite spots, there’s always something new to see, a detail to ponder, this month it was the neon punch of pink from an advert for Vulgar creating the perfect marriage to the terrazzo floor. We visited on my birthday in the pouring rain which I always think is the perfect backdrop weather for the Barbican, and came away with my favourite coffee table book of the year (perhaps too early to call!) Residents, a book about the residents of The Barbican Estate.

Final shot of dreary weather rendered somewhat romantic by light mist on the Thames, I never tire of London’s unique skyline. What have you seen that’s inspired you this month?
