I’m not ready for full on Christmas just yet, however I have been thinking a little about how I want the house to look this year and these shots are a bit of a styling taster whilst I mull over ideas. There’s one thing I’ve been thinking about for ages; from bold stripes, to fluttery white, geometrics to punchy blacks, the thing I’m craving for the tree this year is monochromes. I own quite a few black and white decorations already, as you can see, and I think they look really effective against the greenery of the pine.

Black, white and dark green are one of my favourite colour combinations, so fresh and sophisticated. And in our muddy pink living room I’m hoping this colour palette will look quite elegant and understated. I’ve just decorated the work Christmas tree with kitsch coloured lights, gold baubles and rainbow tinsel so I’m ready for something pared back at home! I’m also hoping that our little person will like it, he’s quite used to my aesthetics by now, and Christmas is all about the kids so I want to keep it fun. I’m going to decorate some baubles myself this year, and am thinking I’ll let Ted have free reign on a few too.

I most love the combination of black and white together on a bauble, it feels like a modern take on the traditional candy cane. I will be adding a few new pieces to my collection for the tree this year (when it finally goes up, absolutely not until the first week of December) so that I can keep the whole thing within this theme, so I have been hunting down my favourites on the high street. I had expected, with monochrome being so staple in scandinavian design, I would find an abundance, but actually I’ve found them a little thin on the ground. Having looked from high street giants to small independent stores, and a few unusual places inbetween, I thought I would share with you an edit of the best I have come across. If you know of any monochrome beauties I’ve missed do let me know! Do you have a theme for this year? It’s only a month til Christmas Eve tomorrow, I don’t know where this year went…

Ohhh, I do like this. This past year I have noticed a change in my decorating style. I am going ‘softer.’ I have just to much color going on. I have started going for monochrome in styles and textures. This Christmas idea is just what I have been looking for!!!
Ah that’s great to hear, thank you so much. Im definitely craving softer tones too, I think they are easier to live with, particularly in the cold and darker months xx
