The Easter holidays have begun and, continuing with my focus on the smaller things that bring joy at the moment, I’m sharing a celebrational Easter craft that I made yesterday. With all this extra time on my hands (when I’m not parenting or home schooling) I thought I’d tackle a small craft I had meant to try at Christmas with baubles but translates well for Easter! I am not the worlds most patient crafter so simplicity is always paramount for me and this simple craft gives a good bang for its buck. I actually made these for a craft video on the Facebook page of the library I work for, showing simple crafts that use items commonly found around the house, suitable for adults and kids alike. I rather liked the end result, so, if you’ve got a couple of hours to while away on something craft based, here are my Easter egg decorations, happy crafting!

What You Will Need:
Eggs
String
Paint (I used emulsion for base and acrylic for decoration, but you could use poster paint, spray paint, or food colouring, whatever’s to hand really!)
A shallow filled tray of water
A paintbrush
A piece of floristry wire
A twig to hang your decorations on
.
.
Method:
To blow out the contents of your egg you first need to create a hole at the top and bottom of it, we used a sterilised metal food skewer to make the hole, then placed a bowl under the egg and blew through the top hole with a straw.
Now thread your eggs with a loop at the top, if you have a button to hand you can simply glue your looped string to the top of the egg, if not do as I did (it’s a little fiddlier) and attach a piece of string to floristry wire and pull string through egg with a knot at the bottom.
Paint your egg in a base colour (for speed I dunked my eggs in a tin of emulsion and left to dry on a twig in the garden, but you could paint each side with a brush). Leave to dry.

Now the fun part, decorating eggs!
Speckled eggs created by simply flicking a paint brush loaded with black acrylic paint over the eggshell.

To create marble effect eggs, fill a small dish (I had a baking dish to hand, but small plastic takeaway boxes would be perfect) with 1-2 cms of water. Now select the colours you want to marble with, I chose black, pink and grey. Drip your chosen colours into tray and use the end of a paintbrush to swirl a pattern you are happy with. Now roll your egg onto the surface of the mixture to pick up pattern and hang to dry.
Eh voila, simple Easter decorations made with basic staples around the house.
