Appearances can be deceiving, this looks like a hazy summers day in London doesn’t it? It’s actually a shot from back in the Spring when Summer was still promising its arrival. An arrival that never really came if you ask me, what a non-summer it’s been this year! Apart from odd moments where the sun has decided to make an appearance from behind the veil of cloud (or incredible rain storms) you would be forgiven for thinking the last six weeks were a bad May or a good October. Well, bad weather aside, there’s still loads of inspiration to be found in and around London of flowers, colour palettes, architecture and more. So here are my Summer favourites, the things that have caught my eye on my travels and comprise my visual notes for the season. What have you been looking at and finding inspiration in? Let me know in the comments below.

The view from a balcony window of Somerset House on a warm day in June at one of the Christmas In July Press days. I love Somerset House, the Victorians really knew how to build an imposing facade and I love how the courtyard is now used throughout the calendar year for events and gatherings, but for me it is most beautiful during its quieter moments like this.

You may recall that we visited Polesden Lacey in the mist over Christmas which I have blogged about previously. We re-visited during the summer and just look at these flowers against the backdrop of sand and green, so pretty.

These are some of the traditional colours I associate with all English stately homes. That sandstone and the green that never fades, I rather like the dependability of the way that these stately homes always remain corners of ‘Forever England’.

I know! I know! It’s a bit of a visual jump isn’t it!? I love these toilets at The Railhouse Cafe in Victoria, they may tick every trend box going – pink, brass, chevron, industrial, but if you ask me it’s rocking the look very well indeed.

And zoomed out to its full glory, I should add that the food is also lovely in this place, I had a gorgeous Freekah salad with pomegranate and chicken, but I’d be lying if I said I went here for any other reason than to see the bathroom!
