Five of the Best: Understated Cosy Blankets

I’ve been really hoping for one of those February’s that skips past itself and brings milder air, hints of Spring in nature and brighter days. A little optimistic I know, and as I write this sleet is currently falling outside my window, but I am so longing for Spring. Things are starting to bud in the garden but the days still feel very dark, although they are getting longer the lack of good light during the daylight hours can start to grind at this point in the season. But instead of crossing my fingers and wishing in the Spring I thought I’d celebrate one of my favourite things about the colder months in the home. From
December to February blankets become a staple in almost every room of our house, a touchstone that provides a welcome cocoon during the season of hibernating. Blankets are one of my favourite (and I think most justifiable) interiors indulgences. Few things in life beat that cosy feeling that a well made home textile can bring to a cool body temperature, and if they can look stylish too, all the better.

I usually post one of these pieces earlier, towards the end of Autumn, it’s become a bit of a blog tradition for me, but I missed my chance this year, so now that we are in the final three coldest months of the year in the Uk, I thought I would make amends and post some of my favourites. As home textiles are one of my guilty pleasures, I buy one or two each year, usually pretty cheap on the high street, this year I have picked up some great blankets at both Homesense & H&M (pictured). But my current favourite is a bit of an heirloom piece that was recently gifted to me by Cox & Cox, this soft green blanket in a windmill shaped pattern has just the right hint of sage for the time of year and it’s a beautiful quality piece. I love it’s colour which is almost pastel like, and it’s thicknrss which is perfect for these sub zero evenings we’re having.

I’ve been really drawn to textiles this year that have a subtle punch of colour, pieces that blend really naturally but also have enough interest to be showpieces in themselves. I often think my style sits somewhere in the tiny cross section where minimalism meets maximalism (!). I know, it sounds like an oxymoron right, but actually there is a place, albeit small, where these two styles meet without being pedestrian in my eyes. So, here are my favourite cosy throws of the season. What are yours?
