It’s very nearly Spring. Hurrah to that, in two weeks time official British Spring time will be upon us and I am so ready. I love the change of seasons, all of them, the contrast always jolts me into thoughtful mode as I anticipate the months to come. And, like many of you, there’s no new season I love more than the start of Spring, especially this year after an especially dark and overcast winter, I love the fresh colours stirring after a long sleep and the interludes of bright clement weather.Read More

It’s two weeks til the start of advent and I have started thinking about how christmas is going to look in the home with more intent. I am also entirely ready for mince pies and advocaat (but that’s a whole different post). I tend to allow total freedom with Christmas decorations, no themes for me, just a smorgasbord of things I love with a little nod to the nostalgic and kitsch.

How To Make a D.I.Y Spot Table cloth

August 29, 2016

So, I haven’t done a d.i.y post in a while but I’ve been up to quite a few things round the house in recent months so expect a possible flurry of them soon! I find these kinds of post slightly daunting as I’m terrified of patronising people. But actually I got to thinking about why I feel like this and concluded that I google ‘how to…’ all the time so this may be silly. Do you find that you get straight jacketed by an inner voice on things? Anyway, onto the post in hand. So what I wanted was a tablecloth for our summer party last weekend which had to fit a large trestle table for food (we had nearly 60 people). I wanted to find something that didn’t cost the earth or was so bold a look that it drowned out the pretty party pieces I’d decided on. I had a vague dream based on this beautiful renovation by Royal Roulotte and I kept coming back to the idea of monochrome polka dots, they seemed versatile, fun and not too girly. I wanted something a little less straight or standard than this, in my mind black confetti! This may not come as a surprise but I struggled to find monochrome confetti fabric anywhere. After a little hunt around on Google ‘how to paint polka dot fabric’ I realised that it’s enormously simple and most people just use the eraser part of a pencil to impress their circles. I was really pleased with my intentionally asymmetric rustic result so I thought I’d share it with you.

Weaving Workshop – Upstairs at Smug

July 25, 2016

hand weaving workshop smug bezalel
Last weekend I enrolled on a day course to learn hand weaving. I’ve been a big fan of the bohemian home trend with a tribal twist for a while now and admiring the various wall hangings I’ve come across. So when I saw a course come up in one of my favourite London design stores – Smug,  it was a bit of a no brainer. It was a fantastic thing to do, contemplative and relaxing in a way I’d liken to gardening which is in contrast to my experience of sewing or cross stitch which I find a bit frustrating. Weaving is therapeutic, it has less maths and more fun than other techniques I’ve learnt before so I thought I’d share my experience on the blog today. Read More

Screen-printing with Daniel Heath

Daniel Heath Screenprinting

So, last week saw me do a couple of exciting new things, one was to help with the styling of a project in Fulham and the other was to attend a wallpaper screen-printing demonstration from the very talented Daniel Heath at his studio in Walthamstow. I was invited by new social platform In The Window and have liked Heath’s illustrative designs for a while. The first time I saw them in real life was at Decorex this year and they really are joyful, his Art Deco, taxidermy and circus motifs work exquisitely on both paper and furniture.Read More
