Good morning friends. Today is a post all about my favourite crush of the last year. Each time I see a piece of furniture from French design house Petite Friture‘s range, or a set design from their latest trade show, my heart sings a little. My love affair with Petit Friture (which I believe translates as Small Fry) all started for me with the £3,000 sofa of dreams called Mobilier which you see below. I first glanced it about 18 months ago in Elle Decoration, and in one of those rare moments of true design crush, my heart quickened a little, when I saw it at last winters Decorex I knew I wasn’t going to be able to forget it even though it is completely out of my reach budget-wise. Whilst the furniture is decidedly high end, stay tuned to the end of the post for an exciting high street collaboration with the brand, where you can pick up a cushion for as little as £15, or bedding from £24.

From furniture, to textiles, and soon even wallpaper, Petite Friture are a really exciting design house which match their graphic design sensibilities with a very playful leaning. I love their colour and sense of proportion, this is statement furniture in the truest sense. You could imagine almost all of it on a film set or a particularly high end mid-century based tv production and should appeal to those of you who, like me, like to flirt with the stylised.

Their sense of shape and colour ticks all the boxes for me. There’s just the right balance of hard colours to stop it from feeling too frothy or carousel like, but enough playfulness to make their designs really sing. Look at this outdoor furniture below, I want it all.

There is something unique but also strangely familiar about Petite Friture, drawing on many design influences from the past, but imaging them in modern and quirky ways. There is something a bit Memphis about it all but with lashes of mid-century panache. I love their use of geometrics deconstructed which brings me to their high street range below.

Often these design crushes I share are completely unobtainable to us normal folks. I kind of intend them to be, a question mark to spark curiosity. But happily Petite Friture have also collaborated with French fashion & homewares catalogue La Redoute (who I’m a big fan of already). And whilst these pieces aren’t cheap, if you fall in love with them they are a just-about-accessible investment piece. You can pick up a pillow for £15 or a rug for around £180 but the showstopper for me are the dining tables and chairs.

With their respective silk screen printed deconstructed geometric tabletop pattern and the Hollywood glamour of the chairs, I’m positively in love. It’s going to take a lot to persuade me to take the plunge with a dining table, as I’m so happy with our dining room as a cocktail space but this one from Petite Friture, oh yes that would do nicely. I’m thinking on it for now but it’s very fancy and strikes just the right note of pattern and interest. And did I mention the very expensive but very beautiful chairs also in the range? They would be a perfect investment piece if you have the readies. You can see the full collection from La Redoute here. There is such a sheer sense of joy and playfulness to all of this design. What do you most covet?
