Is it just me, or are you thinking the same thing? Namely that the Arum lamp by Ferm Living is quite possibly both the sexiest and the chicest piece of homeware you’ve ever seen?! That delicately fluted, organically formed, almost fragile, arm and shade coming out of a perfectly formed but sturdy weight of black marble. It was love at first sight for me, and among the most stylish things I own. I have had my eye on this piece since it first made its appearance among Ferm Living’s new designs for Spring/Summer 19. I was more than a little over the moon when Nest, online purveyors of brilliant design, agreed to gift this item to me.

They haven’t asked me to dedicate a post to it in return, but as I keep moving it around the house, trying to decide where it’s forever home may be, I thought I would share a little more about it with you, plus I haven’t focused on a item in my design crush series for years. Perhaps you will have a favourite spot and be able to tell me where it should stay! The big clue from the title shot above is that I’m thinking it should belong in the living room, but I’m open to suggestions, as I seem to love it everywhere. So much so that I’ve been uncharacteristically indecisive about its final destination.

A combination of marble and powder coated metal, the Arum lamp comes in two colours and is also available as both a wall and floor lamp. The matte off white inside of the shade gives it a wonderful soft, and even, diffused light and the position can be adjusted for use. According to Ferm Living, it achieves “achieving the perfect balance in the off-centre structure of the lamp, the black marble foot counterweighs the gentle way the lampshade is suspended from the curved metal arch in a leaf-like manner”.
I love it for its sophistication and understated Scandinavian simplicity, what do you think? And more to the point, where would you put it? I’m still deciding whether I love this lamp more than my husband(!), so forgive me if I can’t commit to it’s forever spot just yet!
