I have absolutely adored magic lantern shows and all old forms of Victorian street entertainment and Georgian optical illusions for years. From camera obscura’s to zoetropes, magic lantern shows to witches mirrors, punch & Judy, death vanitas and thaumatropes, the whole carnival of spectacle is joyful. I sometimes wonder if I would like to have a room in the apartment that’s crammed with these kinds of objects but alas we just don’t have the space for such spectacle.Read More

I absolutely love the carnival tones and eclectic patterns of a trend I am choosing to callĀ bohemian yarn until somebody informs me of what the actual design term will be. We are all accustomed to the design staples of old – global traveller and modern bohemian but there is a real focus on the craft of design in the current trend and an eclecticism that doesn’t merely suggest a hint of the hippy trail installed in the villa of a Notting Hillbilly to me, I am absolutely smitten with it.Read More

If you are looking for something to do during a Sunday in high Spring and you want to be immersed in a wash of colour and smells then I can recommend nothing more highly than Columbia Rd Flower Market in East London. Amongst the hubbub of thronging people, the soundtrack of cockney stall holder patter and enough young and trendy to fill your boots you will come across the most overwhelmingly colourful array of flowers & plants at very reasonable prices. The street is dressed by lots of trendy cafes and home boutiques but really this road on a Sunday morning is all about flowers, flowers flowers.Read More
