Postcards from winter in lockdown

February 22, 2021

It’s almost the end of February, and what promised to be a very slow Lockdown pt.three has actually disappeared before my eyes very quickly. I turned 40 in January which I’d been counting down to for a while, the days have flown by and now the snow has thawed and longer brighter days are beginning to climb, we are in what I think is called fools spring. But before we all pack away our thick winter jumpers, I thought I’d post a couple of pictures from a winter of slow living in Lockdown, I’ve really enjoyed pausing to look at local nature (though I will admit I’m looking forward to varied company more!).

These were all taken on my phone and edited a little afterwards. It amazes me what phones can capture these days when you know the settings. In fact, I have printed the top picture of the swan in large scale and I’m really pleased with it. That swan was cleaning himself in the same spot week after week of visiting our local park, he feels somewhat intertwined with our memories of this lockdown as a result, so the picture feels apt to have in the home. This lockdown has been hard for us all in different ways hasn’t it, I’ve found my own morale at a low ebb, which is partly why I took a break from online posting. But there have been moments of magic amongst it, from watching my son progress in ways that he surprised himself both academically and artistically, and this weekend on a woodland walk we saw baby deer roaming wild (I’m afraid I didn’t grab my camera for that, but enjoyed the moment).

Well, happy fools spring all! I may have been slow off the mark so far this year but I have quite a few posts planned for the coming weeks…
