I’m super excited to reveal today that I’m one of 10 bloggers involved in a new project launching this September called Revamp, Restyle, Reveal. The brainchild of three fabulously stylish interiors mavens, Revamp, Restyle, Reveal is hosted by super-influencer Lisa Dawson, colour connoisseur Bianca Hall of French for Pineapple and eclectic maximalist Oliver Thomas who you may recognise off the telly as a finalist on The Great Interior Design Challenge this year.

The idea behind Revamp, Restyle, Reveal is for 10 bloggers to take a space in their home that needs updating and, with the help of some fantastic sponsors, transform their spaces week by week over the course of September posting progress online as we go. There will be a website, a YouTube channel, Instagram and Twitter on which updates will be posted. But we don’t want the project to exist within a vacuum of our own revamps, we need you along on the journey with us! If you have a space that’s calling out for a little love (or a little paint), or if you’ve already started a project which is going to take you through to September then we want to know about it! There are prizes too, both from our official sponsors and some great independent stores. We’re all going to be talking about it on our own social media, and across the official sites and hashtag – #RevampRestyleReveal from the 4th September when the four week challenge begins. I’ve always found the online Interiors community massively positive and we want you to share along with us with your own enthusiasms or trials and tribulations as we embark on our projects. You’re likely to find me in tears of frustration at some point as my own makeover includes sanding floors, perhaps my most hated diy task (I’m a little scared of the machines if I’m honest!).

But I’m really excited about my plans for the hallway. There’s going to be a beautiful new colour palette (above) including a wall of several colours with geometric shapes and lines, a new cohesive look to the furniture, a paring back of the art work, some mark making prints to be made, and a focus on three of the things that make me happiest in a space – colour, pattern & texture.

/

Mark making practice at a workshop I attended recently, which will inspire some of my pattern exploration in the hallway.

/

So before I embark on this month long diy hiatus I thought I’d show you today the space as it currently is. There’s nothing wrong with it per se (and many of the individual parts I love) but it’s not a space that uplifts or welcomes me and it certainly lacks any cohesive design thought. The downstairs is great, I planned it and am really happy with the look, but it all goes a bit wrong at the bottom of the stairs where it turns from colourful and stylised to something that’s makeshift and has been overlooked. I love my Isle Crawford wicker lightshade from Ikea, and some of the artwork is perfect for what I have in mind, but pretty much everything else is going or moving place.

I painted out the walls in white soon after we moved and started amassing things that I like on the walls to distract from the blandness but it’s a bit of a jumble of styles. I hated the old carpet chiefly for being a nightmare to hoover (for some reason all the carpets in the house have been like this) so I used it as a paint mat (see below) and then backed out of doing anything as I was worried about the prospect of hardwood and a little person who was just learning to walk when we moved in. Well he’s not so little now and is probably a better gymnast than me (although I’ve become very good at balancing many objects on two arms!) so the carpets are coming up and I’m crossing fingers about what I may find beneath!

Style wise I’m taking my points of influence from a colour palette of new neutrals with shades that are there but only just, an exploration of mark making and some geometry on my colour wall. But it’s not all going to be experiment, I’m also hoping to bring some sophistication to the space and will be incorporating some of the understated and natural vibes of Scandinavian design. The walls will be painted in beautiful shades of both Peach Baby and Tom’s Bakery by Earthborn with wood accents in Hobbywood. I have a few shades in mind for the colour wall for but you’ll have to wait for the journey to start to see what I finalise on!

Ah, this is exciting! I’ve just watched your intro video. Looking forward to the whole process and reveal. One question though, are the ten makeovers going to happen simultaneously over four weeks, or one after the other?

Thanks Juan, yes simultaneously so we will all be rolling out our progress in real time as we go through the four weeks and then there will be a blog hop at the end with Room reveals 🙂 We’d love it if you had time to join in too xx

I must say I’m a big fan of your hallway as it is but I’m sure you’ve got something extra planned for it so can’t wait! It’s great to see so many good bloggers/designers in this challenge. Wish you luck Ruthie!
