A few months ago Miller Harris came to my home to shoot some of their new Home collection which launched last week. It was a massive compliment to have them round as they are a perfumer I have long been buying scent from, in fact I bought my first Miller Harris perfume nearly a decade ago for my thirtieth birthday and by happy coincidence the scent, Rose en Noir, has been re-released as a limited edition fragrance this summer.
Fragrance in the home is super important to me, it’s one of my backdrop pivots for creating mood, alongside natural history, dried flowers and entomology I use scent as a part of layering and adding depth to the feeling of a space with permanency. I often light candles on both summer and winter evenings as an end of day celebration, or concoct my own diffusers from my current favourite essential oils – I can’t keep away from Sweet Orange, Marjoram and Lemon at the moment. So I was interested to see what Miller Harris, who are known for their unparalleled noses in sophisticated and natural scent, would have created.

The collection, which comprises four room sprays and four diffusers, is an eclectic mix of divergent scents evoking a plethora of moods. My home smelt absolutely joyful by the end of shooting and I loved the heady mix of smells, I think I could be very happy working in the lab at a perfumier. I also had a definite favourite amongst the eight, and was quite stalking it by the end of shoot!

I love room diffusers for releasing a gentle, steady aroma, and the Mosket diffuser is an absolute stand-out for me, with its incredible fresh green scent underpinned by the sweetness of Violet and the earthiness of Carrot. I currently have this in our bedroom and just love catching it’s scent each time I enter the room.

Scent is so personal, married to our memories, evoking things that have unique meanings for us. I am quite a summertime girl by nature and tend towards citrus scents that remind me of my favourite Mediterranean holidays, herbs that fill the garden with scent on summers days and things that evoke the sea as this is my happy place. If someone were to say close your eyes and think of a place you feel content I know without blinking that I will be visualising the waters from the island of Capri where I got married. With this in mind, I chose the aquatic inspired Periwinkle room spray for downstairs, which is composed of exotic notes that mirror the sea breeze of far flung shores and of course reminds me of holidays past.

I loved having Miller Harris over for the day, and alongside their new home range I also discovered a scent that is just made for me. It’s pretty much a given that if scent includes either Geranium, pepper or Vetiver then my nose is on board. And Geranium Bourbon is the ultimate Geranium based scent, it’s very rich and heady, not for the faint hearted perhaps, but I haven’t stopped wearing it since.

What scents do you love most? Are you drawn to scents you can place the memory of? I’d love to know in the comments below.

This is not a sponsored post. Although Miller Harris paid me to shoot the collection in my home I was not under obligation to compose a post. I was genuinely incredibly impressed with the range, which is why I wanted to share it with you today. You can view the complete range here.
