About Design_Soda_Ruthie

I write Design Soda, a design blog with a focus on interiors. My blog aims to be an unpretentious, stimulating, fun and naturally curious delve into inspirational design and Londoncentric culture. I describe my style as boho-eclectic and am open to most design which doesn’t look too serious or composed. As a design geek with a love of vintage and upcycling, I am passionate about my home and love blogging ideas and looks that I find inspirational. Since the time when my teenage bedroom was an Aladdins cave of upcycled furniture, Cecil Beaton photography and Situationist slogans I have been interested in the way the home environment can make you feel and inspire your inner life. As a new mummy, trying to negotiate my passions with my lovely new baby's schedule can be difficult, but in my spare time you will often find me snapping the things that catch my eye in my wonderful home city London. Or, reading, upcycling, spending longer on Pinterest than I should, baking and watching old movies. I have a lifelong passion for French New Wave cinema.

Cornucopia of Cosiness for the home

October 5, 2015

Throws cushions, Custhom, T&shop, Margo Selby, Another Country, Melin Tregwynt, Lapuan Kanruit

If there’s one thing I often feel envious of in other peoples homes it’s their home decor knits, I’m a full sewn knitwear fanatic. There’s a running joke in our household that when fashion packages arrive during winter-time it probably contains yet more cardigans or knits for me(!). I guess it follows that if you love both pattern and texture then knitted pattern will be a big draw within an interior scheme. I know I have done winter post‘s on blankets before, maybe I’ll make this my yearly tradition. So, to celebrate Campaign for Wool’s National Wool Week, here are my current favourite knitted homewares on the market:

Clockwise from top left: A selection from Lapuan Kanruit, I love all of their blankets, particularly this, Taivaanvalkeat blanket, 86.90 EuroRead More

Design Junction & Tent London 2015

September 25, 2015

Had so much fun at Design Junction and Tent London. I started the day at Tent London arriving in Shoreditch at 10am bright eyed and bushy tailed, very far from how I felt 6 hours later with 5 canvas bags with a million pieces of paper and a particularly cumbersome piece of concrete! But wow, what an experience. I genuinely feel a bit spoilt for choice, there was so much great eye catching design at an accessible price point. I come away with a couple of pieces, but my wish list for our next house is now immense – some serious thought on the design brief is now required! As we are going away for the weekend today I am horribly time poor (will probably forget all essential baby supplies at this point) but I wanted to update at least some of the thrills from today’s visits to the shows.
I give you today’s Design Festival through the Aperture:
