Happy Weekend everyone, just dropping by with a quick inspiration pitstop of my design highlights from Decorex 2017. Decorex is a great place for spotting ideas executed at the very high end of design and wondering how elements of their thought can be translated into normal homes. For me, inspiration spotting at the show was all about comfort, beautiful understated earthy tones, natural materials, and quality over fast thrills. A new kind of rustic, with cleaner lines where materials take centre stage. The statement here is quieter than things I’ve chosen to highlight in previous years, and reflects the natural glide we’ve witnessed in interior design this year towards comfort and craftsmanship. They say that these trends in design, like all other trends I guess, rely on the cultural landscape for meaning, and a lot of emphasis has been placed on retreating from the outside world this year in design. I’m all on board for retreats that look like this, I’m not sure I’d ever want to leave these two bathrooms for a start! The one at the top of article is from the set by Larusi Rugs, the one below is by Porter Bathroom

This set from Benchmark makes my heart sing, the mix of colour, surface and lighting is exactly the definition of modern luxury to my mind and one I can imagine incorporating into my own home with ease.

Bert Frank always plays with natural textures so well, proving that products which are completely stylised can look entirely at home within the modern rustic aesthetic.

So simple and so effective from Faolchu, I love how placing wood against an off white background brings a piece to the fore and highlights it’s form and beauty. So Scandinavian in ethos, and so timeless.

I always love spotting Irish textiles brand Mourne at the shows, their designs which have been in production since the 1940’s feel like the epitome of design craftsmanship to me, they make me want to own a home in the countryside and snuggle down amongst their gorgeous pieces to read.

I loved the Pinch stand, it has a vintage vibe which eschews the rules that vintage looks unpolished, this is design rooted in the past but with all the clean lines of now.

Final stop is Petite Friture which stands in contrast to all my other picks for its stylised fabulous-ness! There is a true glamour here that I find I really seductive.

Which look do you like best? Do any of these sets chime with design plans or dreams for your own homes?

I was gutted to miss most of this in person due to no childcare but did manage to get to Design Centre which was also inspiring. I adore the Bert Frank image, the wood and the mad-men feel is right up my street!
