After a long non-Spring-non-summer in England, we have just come to the end of one of those mythical Indian summers where cynicism gives way to the joys of sunlight even as the days shorten around you. I have been so glad of the sunshine, if only because, like a squirrel storing it’s nuts, I need to drink up every last drop of light before the long dark autumn and winter ahead.

In the romance of the imagination autumn is a time of russet hues, crunchy leaves, the smell of bonfires and crisp sunshine. The reality is often getting soaked on the school run whilst your child slips on mulch. But all the same, I love to ring in every new season in the home with a little change up. And this autumn I was delighted to be asked to pick some pieces from Lithuanian linen artisans Magic Linen who have been on my radar for a long time.

Nothing creates the feeling of seasonal change so much as textiles in the home, so alongside the autumnal candles, which I tend to keep fresh and smokey at this time of year, I have selected new bed linen sets. Magic Linen produce linen wares with verifiable eco-credentials to do less harm (including the Oeko-Tex certification) in a range of richly beautiful and uncommon colours, and I couldn’t resist their Wood Rose duvet set. It is the perfect cosy autumnal pink matching beautifully against the pigeon green of the walls and accessorised by black, beige and terracotta cushions.

The quality of this bedding is really luxurious, even my husband commented to this effect, which in a seasoned household of linen is quite the accolade. It’s the little touches I love too, the cute detailing of the coconut wood buttons that add that touch of luxury and make small everyday tasks like changing the bed less tedious.

There’s just something about stripes in linen, so classic, and a perfect foil to linens naturally undone structure, so I couldn’t resist choosing a stripe for my second set. I chose a classic blue and white striped cover, with its echoes of traditional pyjamas it feels perfectly fresh for bright Sunday mornings in autumn with a cup of tea in bed and a magazine.

I’m so pleased with the quality of these pieces which really elevate the everyday. From the bedding sets to the waffle pattern towels, which feel perfectly springy, to the understated white and natural striped napkins, there’s a quiet style and quality to all of these pieces and I’ve had fun styling them up for autumn in the home.

The home feels accented with new pieces for the season ahead, I’m all set for occasion dinners indoors,  hot baths and cosy early nights sleep.  Is it too early to say bring on Halloween?!
