As someone who has shopped with Skandium for many years for special investment pieces around the house (and coveted many, many more items!), I was really thrilled to be asked to curate some of my favourite items on a String shelving unit for an installation as a part of London Design Festival at the new flagship store in South Kensington last week.

To be given free reign of Skandium’s product line was a dream brief for me, but which of my favourite brands to choose – Normann, Muuto, Eleanor Pritchard, Marimekko, Skultuna – oh I could go on (and on)! And what theme was I going to choose to pull them all together – what do you do when you love everything?!

I was one of three bloggers approached for this, alongside super blogger and influencer Little Big Bell and one of my favourite blogging buddies Melanie Lissack. I think all of our shelves represented who we are style wise. Geraldine of Little Big Bell had units stacked with the colour and playfulness she is so well known for, and Melanie’s was dressed with the pretty, feminine and delicate pieces which are her signature. My own unit was an attempt at an indulgent corner of the home, I wanted something that felt a little decadent and was stocked with items like candles, glasses, cushions and throws that are designed for quiet moments of luxury.

I own a few of the plates and the Rosendahl dog on this display, but the items which I loved most in real life were the beautiful Alvar Aalto vases and the Skultuna trays. Oh and this seasons cushion designs from Muuto which I had to steal a chair just to display one on! Which piece which you choose?

I had such fun doing this and being a part of Skandium’s London Design Festival programme, particularly with String shelving which is a brand I’ve always loved. I had no idea just how simple and practical they are, moving shelf depths was so easy and they look so chic. On top of this, I really wanted to see the new store as I’d heard it was beautiful and as you can see from the pictures below, it’s a gorgeous space, the top floor resembling the kind of apartment I would die to live in. I was also given a tour of Skandium’s new townhouse across the road which is going to be a design house showcasing the best of their lines. It is currently being renovated and opens to the public in October, but the final picture is a taster of the kind of rooms you can expect to find in this stunning new show space.

It was so lovely to meet you Ruthie ( 2 days running). Your shelf is so beautiful and love how you have incorporated the chair in the styling. Hope we meet again soon. Have a great weekend x
Thank you so much Geraldine, it was absolutely lovely to meet you too and I’m still a little in awe of your gorgeous installation. Look forward to crossing paths again soon xx
My favourite is definitely the Marimekko tableware. What are you going to do with your String shelf?
It’s gorgeous isn’t it, I could fill out home with pieces from their tableware. I think my String shelf is destined for the living room but haven’t fully committed to decision yet! X
